Day 2 - Sunday Sermon Recap

Feb 25, 2025    Pastor Javier Vega

Welcome to day 2 of our weekly devotional based on last Sunday’s Sermon

1 Peter 1:13-16 Therefore, preparing your minds for action, and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ. As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

As we established last Sunday here at IFEC, we believe that our spiritual DNA is built upon living our lives for the glory of God in three ways, by loving the Father, building up the Family and multiplying the Family.

Loving the Father isn’t just about expressing our devotion—it’s also about reflecting His nature. One of the clearest ways we do this is through holiness. Holiness is not about perfection, but about being transformed by God’s presence and reflecting His character in how we live. The Bible teaches that we are called to be holy because our Father is holy. Holiness is not just a moral standard—it is part of our identity as God’s children.

Peter tells us to prepare our minds for action and to be sober-minded. Holiness isn’t accidental; it requires intentionality. Loving the Father means setting our minds on His truth, guarding our hearts from sin, and rejecting anything that draws us away from Him.

Jesus said, “If you love me, you will keep my commandments.” This means that holiness flows from love. We don’t pursue holiness to earn God’s love—we pursue it because we already have it. Just as a child resembles their parents, we are to resemble our Heavenly Father. When we pursue holiness, we are embracing our spiritual DNA—showing that we belong to Him.

This means: Setting our hope fully on Christ as we keep our eyes on Jesus instead of the world. It means living in obedience by turning away from our old ways and walking in God’s truth. And it also means being different from the world by living in a way that reflects God’s love, purity, and righteousness.

Holiness isn’t just a command—it’s an invitation to draw closer to God. Today, consider an area of your life where you struggle to reflect God's holiness. Is your life reflecting the holiness of your Father? What areas of your life need to be set apart for Him? How does pursuing holiness deepen your love for the Father? Ask the Holy Spirit to empower you to live in a way that honors God, remembering that we are partakers of His divine nature. As we love the Father, let’s commit to living a life that honors Him in all we do.
