Day 1 - Sunday Sermon Recap

Feb 17, 2025    Pastor Javier Vega

Welcome to Day 1 of our weekly devotional based on last Sunday’s Sermon:

Ephesians 2:1-5 And you were dead in the trespasses and sins in which you once walked, following the course of this world, following the prince of the power of the air, the spirit that is now at work in the sons of disobedience— among whom we all once lived in the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body and the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, like the rest of mankind. But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved

As we saw last Sunday on our the first sermon of our new series Church DNA, every human being is born with an inherited spiritual DNA—one that traces back to Adam. This DNA, marked by sin and separation from God, dictates how we live, think, and desire. Paul reminds us in Ephesians 2 that before Christ, we were not just sick in sin; we were dead in it. Our spiritual condition was beyond self-repair, as we were shaped by the world’s influence and the cravings of our fallen nature.

But then comes two of the most powerful words in Scripture: “But God.” In His mercy and love, God did what we could never do for ourselves—He made us alive in Christ! When we put our faith in Jesus, we are not just given a fresh start; we receive a new DNA—one that reflects His righteousness instead of Adam’s sin.

If we are now made alive in Christ, why would we continue living as though we are still bound by the old nature? Paul’s words challenge us to embrace our new identity. We are no longer children of wrath but children of grace. This means our thoughts, desires, and actions must reflect the life of Christ in us.

So, are there areas in your life where you still live according to your old DNA? How does knowing you are made alive in Christ change the way you approach your struggles and weaknesses? Today, fully embrace the DNA of Christ in your life and walk as one who’s been made alive by His grace!
