Day 2 - Sunday Sermon Recap

Feb 18, 2025    Pastor Javier Vega

Welcome to Day 2 of our weekly devotional based on last Sunday’s Sermon:

1 Corinthians 12:12-14, 18, 27 “For just as the body is one and has many members, and all the members of the body, though many, are one body, so it is with Christ. For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit. For the body does not consist of one member but of many… But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose… Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.”

As we saw last Sunday according to the Scriptures in our unregenerate DNA humanity is by nature sinful at conception, unrighteous, lovers of self, wicked, hostile to God, dead in their sins, deserving wrath, disconnected from God and from one another. But when Christ saved us, He didn’t just give us a new identity; He gave us a new belonging. We were not only made alive but now in Christ we are part of something bigger—the body of Christ.

Just as our physical bodies have many members that function together, so does the church. No one believer stands alone. Christianity is not meant to be experienced in isolation. Under this new DNA, we are united by the Spirit, each given a role and purpose within God’s design. In Christ we are called to operate as one. For this reason Paul tells us that when one member suffers the whole body suffer. For this reason we rejoice with those who rejoice and we mourn with those who mourn. Whether we are hands serving, feet going, or mouths proclaiming, we all contribute to the work of Christ in the world.

In His infinite wisdom God has intentionally placed each of us in His body. No one is unnecessary, and no one is insignificant. When we embrace our role and work together, the church moves in power, reflecting Christ to the world and in doing so we fulfill God’s mission.

Are you fully embracing your role in the body of Christ, or are you holding back? How can you better connect and serve within the church, knowing that you are a vital member of Christ’s body? Let’s live out our new DNA by walking together as the body of Christ, united in purpose and love!
