Day 5 - Sunday Sermon Recap

Feb 14, 2025    Pastor Javier Vega

Welcome to day 5 of our devotional based on last Sunday’s sermon:

Ephesians 6:18-20 praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, 19 and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, 20 for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

Right after laying out the full armor of God Paul closes by adding a final component to help us stand against the schemes of the evil one, he calls believers to pray at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication.

Why? Because the armor of the believer will be rendered powerless without God’s presence and guidance. We may think that we are wearing the breastplate of righteousness, but without prayer, we will not actively seek to walk in that righteousness. We may believe that we have taken up the sword of the Spirit, but without prayer, we will end up wield it without divine wisdom. Paul himself, though a mighty apostle, asks for prayer so that he may boldly proclaim the gospel. If Paul needed prayer, how much more do we?

The armor protects us, but prayer empowers us. Prayer is what turns our defense into an active relationship with God. It aligns our hearts with His will, strengthens our resolve, and invites His Spirit to work through us. So, as you put on the full armor of God, do not forget to wrap it in prayer. Armor without prayer is like a soldier on the battlefield without orders. Let us be a people who not only stand firm in the faith but also stay on our knees in prayer.

Are you daily putting on the armor of God and covering yourself in prayer? How's your prayer life? Do you tend to pray only in crises, or is it a constant conversation with God? Today, challenge yourself to pray throughout the day, for big and small things. Pray for others, especially those in spiritual leadership. As you do, notice how it affects your perspective and peace of mind. Remember, prayer is powerful—it's how we access God's strength and wisdom for the battles we will face.
